Current innovations: An allround plaster and effective footcare

An especially resistant plaster, Hansaplast Extra Tough shows that the research on new plaster products never stops. This plaster combines a flexible elastic material with a watertight, breathable membrane. This allows it to offer optimal protection when coming in contact with water.

1901 World’s first white zinc oxyde rubber plaster Company owner Dr. Oscar Troplowitz produces a plaster with both strong adhesion and durability. Zinc oxide eliminates the problem of skin irritation and the white powder added a bright colour. The world’s first white zinc oxide rubber plaster is introduced under the name „Leukoplast“ (from the Greek „leukos“ – white and „plastos“ – shaped. It wasn’t however suitable for wounds as it didn’t absorb any blood.

1890 Dr. Oscar Troplowitz purchases the company from Carl Beiersdorf and constructs a large factory to develop the gauze plasters, to meet the growing demand by doctors for the new product to protect wounds.
1882 Carl Paul Beiersdorf is granted patent No. 20057 to produce coated plasters. The “gutta-percha plaster gauze” allows for a precise dose of drugs to be administered to the skin. This is the birth of the Beiersdorf AG.
